Wow, what can I say!! This is essentially a reboot of the classic series and Insomniac did themselves proud in reimagining the first game.
Basically a Pixar movie come to life! This is the sort of game that proves you don't need photo realistic graphics to create an immersive world
The voice acting matches the funny and engaging script perfectly, and I found myself laughing out loud in places, something I rarely do when playing games.
There are rpg-lite elements to the game, essentially involving the levelling up of weapons. The range of interesting and ridiculously fun weapons is just right...enough that you feel you want to level them all up, but not so many you feel overwhelmed.
I was worried before hand about any possible platformy-type sections, as these can ruin a good game for me (due to an inherent lack of skill!). However, these were not in any way difficult and I kept the game on Normal difficulty throughout.
There were some fairly short puzzle sections in the game which slowed the pace down at times. They were not enough of a challenge to feel engaging and I always felt impatient to get going again.
There is a Challenge Mode unlocked when you finish the main game which functions as a NG+. The problem was I had several weapons fully levelled by this point and I could literally blow through everything. Hardly a Challenge Mode at all.
That aside, this is one of my favourite games of the current gen consoles. If you have a PS4, go get it. If you don't, it's almost worth the admission price alone!
